Dusk

westward wind tarries
sea-floral fragrance

rain clouds

slinging its glorious mane

a darkening
of trees sway below gibbous moon

tide recedes
crooning last summer's song

time slips
hushed and gentle like the gazelle. *

Title and last line from Dusk, Gabriela Mistral.

long shadows of sunset
stole my breath & words-

I drank as a daughter *

  1. You captured a very delicate sense of beauty her, Grace. Each couplet is perfectly balanced and self-contained.

  2. really great descriptors in this grace...nice allusion as well with the gazelle...they are rather graceful....just hope it stays one step ahead of the predator

  5. Ooo...I love the likening of clouds to that of a mane, Grace! Lovely words, (as always), and that was one of my favorite parts of her poem as well about the gazelle. :)

  22. I am ready for dusk of summer to pass back to the brutal hand of winter, physically all that arctic freeze helped my pain which is not a glorious thing. Mothers milk from a palm tree, isn't that a coconut? Man they are hard to get out of the womb. hows the vacation going Grace? Getting all relaxed and rested?

  23. I haven't visited you before so I thought I had better look at some of your recent work. I was delighted to see there seems to a naiad or watery muse that inspires you, allowing you to create such original work.

  33. You portray a very gentle and subdued movement throughout this piece, Grace, from the winds to the rains and even to time. Such a well balanced and paced picture. Wonderful craft in putting this together. It's interesting that you paint this portrait with darker tones. I usually think of Florida with tones of lightness and busy-ness. This provides a more interesting perspective.
