What the spring flowers ate

Grace@ Everyday Amazing

Not half-baked crumbs but bird seeds
scattered by squirrels & robins

Rain trails soaking ground
green & lush

Once more, earth is red
wine as pink-blushed faces appear

We own the wild fields & all
the mornings
misty & pale
Or golden as russet trees

I hear their rowdy chatter, tumult
of awakening, tea-leaves
I pour on small cups to welcome them

Heat arrives in waves
The blossoming is profuse, a murmuring

We run in meadows
barefoot
& the afternoon
sparkles warm as honey

My belly is filled with oats & butter-
flies, I am lifted,

carefree lass
straining to flower's every word

before the dying
sun

  21. Oh the joys of being a wildflower ! I used to think of being a deer back in my running days. Carefree and quick, I loved to run in the rain.

The pictures? Lately I have been posting via an iPad and it doesn't do pictures good. My 'dirt farmer' post forced my to use my laptop. (My older daughter gets after me when there aren't pictures. The fields are some I took last week while in Wales. I took the others Friday at Borough Market here in London.)

  28. I love to check on my flowers, often am surprised when a long awaited one blooms - so happy! and then they slowly fade, but I still appreciate them (that's when b&w photography comes in handy:) Beautiful poem, I like the italicized stanzas very much - the fact you gave them a voice!
