Dona Nobis Pacem

today
i will light
a  candle:
peace

i  will  be the
sycamore tree
standing    tall
for brothers &
sisters,    lost
 &  war-weary.
  i will  be  the
shaded leaves,
sturdy bark  of
home to those
who need me.
my trunk   will
be   hollowed
  hearth to wings
   & feet. i'll bade
my words soft
 as wind, strong
as  fire  during
 cold nights.For
 today,    peace
 begins with me.

  3. What a good idea to shape your poem like a candle wrought with fine ideals put into words.

  7. Peace starts with each of us doesn't it? Very nicely put, Grace.
Good thought too about lighting the candle. We all should do that.

  9. this had a musical quality to it...there is a song in this...if it wasn't for the fact I can't carry a tune in a bucket and I can't even play the spoons ... I would have a try at it... :)

  18. Beautiful words/intention/shape. Your words are reminiscent of a mahayana teaching, "The Way of the Bodhisattva", by Shantideva. "May the pain of every living creature be completely cleared away. May I be the doctor and the medicine and may I be the nurse for all sick beings in the world until everyone is healed." You are bodhisattva.
