The silent sky

Grace @ Everyday Amazing

we walk in shadowy cold night
even in city's bright street lights
holding wounded faith close, we cast
nets, searching for answers we've asked

a million times, we're diminished
by each senseless death & tarnished
innocence.  we plead as we cast
nets for answers we've always asked

for understanding & peace, love
to lift our hearts like morning doves,
kindling hope amidst silence - vast
sky, we search for answers we've asked

Posted for D'verse Poets Pub - Kyrielle -  Poetry form is written in rhyming couplets, with the last line as a refrain.

I am still grieving I must admit as I watch and listen  to debates on US gun control laws.  But I don't believe that more guns is the answer.  I am relieved that in Canada our gun laws are very strict.

Thanks for the visit & have a wonderful day ~  I hope to write happier posts starting with my haiku tomorrow ~

  1. A sensitive and beauty kyrielle - the refrain is what we are all asking ourselves this time - and is so appropriate. Wishing you the blessings of the season.

  3. Yes, we are diminished by each of these acts...we all suffer when anyone suffers. I wish we had stricter gun laws here in the U.S....although it seems like the "bad guys" always manage to obtain their weapons...somehow. I really don't know what the answer is. Thanks for a meaningful share, Grace.

  6. "holding wounded faith close" You can imagine how this resonates with me! And casting the nets! Fisherpeople looking for answers that would nourish, and having to cast wider and farther. This is joining the poems I prefer not to live without.

  7. Beautiful lines.
Unfortunately, we often know the answers -- sick people, hate and more.
We just wish it weren't the answer and that there was better ones.

  8. So many questions rise from tragedies like this; I know there's no easy solution, but more gun control seems like it would definitely help. There's absolutely no reason to use assault rifles for hunting, and the defense that people need guns to resist the government is paranoid and, frankly, crude. Beautiful poem--thanks for sharing :)

  9. I'm totally with you here. It's terribly sad and hard to break out of thinking about it. Also hard knowing that we CAN break out and others will feel the loss for the rest of their lives. Good questions; well-phrased. k.

  15. We are instilled with passion, with emotion, sensitivities that when we cast that net out to capture hope sometimes all we catch are stones, rocks and pebbles. Yet, being that sensitive lot we are, we will assemble those stones, rocks and pebbles spelling the word hope. In just this small act Hope is then born.

    Great piece mi amiga

Have a spot of Hope in these celebrated days.

  16. This is lovely Grace. The minimal punctuation made it hard to read, not to mention the subject matter. For once I think the poem is better for that - it made me find places to pause and find my own meaning.
