The walk

he   walked  backward,  while    i
walked  forward,   walk(ing)   afar,   looked
back,  i   checked  his   side(ways),
while    barely  keeping  straight      face
i    noticed   his  face  straight (too)

A 5 x 5 square poem, which can be also be read up and down.

he                  walked         backward,      while           i
walked           forward,       walk(ing)        afar,           looked
back              i                   glance(d)        his              side(ways),
while             barely           holding           straight       face
i                    noticed         his                 face            straight (too)

  8. The neat thing, I find, is to have this poem and not tell anyone it's a square poem. The aha! moment that a reader gets when he realizes that he can read it vertically is just amazing.

  15. Very cool, walking, glancing. Playful and fun, feels like a deliberate suppression of happy expression that somehow make this scene cute. :)

Nice job on a challenging prompt. :)

  16. I dig it. Very creative way to describe the scene. I picture two coy people pretending not to like each other but glancing up from time to time to see if the other is looking.

  17. Yours was very creative and a different take on the form. First one I've read when the subjects were not trying to get free. Ha. Loved it.

  18. I love how you are about relationships. Here you have used this very sneaky form to convey those sneaky little peeks that lovers, admirers often take at each other. Nicely done.
